Robotic Surgery is one of the latest techniques in minimally invasive surgery. During robotic surgery, a robotic surgeon inserts three to four robotic, maneuverable arms into the patient through very small abdominal incisions.
The robotic surgeon will place their hands in a special machine to direct the robotic instruments. Two of the inserted robotic arms act as the robotic surgeon’s hands, another holds a camera, and another, fourth, robotic arm is sometimes used to remove obstructions.
During robotic surgery, the robotic surgeon is provided with a three-dimensional view of the surgical site through the top of the machine. The surgeon may or may not be seated (or standing) directly next to the patient.
Safety and Benefits
Even for challenging procedures, a robotic surgeon will generally encounter no more complications with robotic surgery than they would during laparoscopic surgery. Because robotic surgery is minimally invasive, robotic surgery leads to less pain, less scarring, less anesthesia needed, and faster recovery times than with open surgical approaches.
One primary benefit of robotic surgery is that less blood loss is encountered than with other types of procedures. Also, the robotic surgeon can be more precise in his work during robotic surgery, as robots correct for any minute hand movements and maneuver through the body well. These all result in fewer complications and shorter hospital stays for patients.
DaVinci Robotic Surgery
Dr. Ahmad pioneered the use of the da Vinci Robotic Surgery system in his area for robotic surgery of the abdomen. This is the most advanced robotic surgery platform of its kind today.
Over three million patients have trusted da Vinci Robotic Surgery, and its use is supported by extensive clinical evidence as to its safety and efficacy. While all surgeries carry risk, da Vinci robotic surgery has been proven to carry less risk and provide improved outcomes over traditional open surgery. Da Vinci robotic surgery is so minimally invasive, many patients report that they did not need prescription pain medication from their robotic surgeon following their da Vinci robotic surgery.
To request an appointment for robotic surgery, the first step is to obtain a consultation with your robotic surgeon. To request a consultation for robotic surgery, laparoscopic surgery, endoscopic surgery, or any other of Dr. Ahmad’s general or bariatric surgeries, please contact our office or fill out one of our online forms.
Weight Loss Surgery
For weight loss surgery, new patients must attend one of Dr. Ahmad’s free educational seminars. During the seminar, you will learn how to determine if you qualify for weight loss surgery, how to work with your insurance provider, and what is required of patients both before and after weight loss surgery.
You will also learn about robotic surgery options, as well as laparoscopic and open surgery options. Dr. Ahmad will review the risks, costs, and benefits of each. He will also explain what to look for in a robotic surgeon or any other type of weight loss surgeon you may be considering. Next steps will be discussed at the end of the informational session.
For general surgery, please fill out our consultation form online. A member of our team will reach out to you as soon as possible to schedule your initial consultation.
