Dr. Ahmad has been trained in utilizing the daVinci Surgical System, the most advanced surgical platform in the world, to perform minimally invasive gastric bypass surgery.
Dr. Ahmad, a pioneer in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, is the first bariatric surgeon in Suffolk County to use the advanced daVinci robotic system to perform the bariatric procedure. With gastric bypass surgery, a surgeon creates a small pouch in the top of the stomach that restricts the amount of food that can be digested at any time. The body's ability to absorb fat from food is also substantially reduced through bypassing the duodenum, a part of the small intestine.
The daVinci Surgical System is a sophisticated robotic platform designed to expand a surgeons capabilities. Surgeons using daVinci make small incisions to introduce miniaturized wristed instruments and a high-definition 3D camera. The surgeon is seated at a console and views a magnified, high-resolution 3D image of the surgical site. At the same time, the surgeon's hand movements are translated by state-of-the-art robotic and computer technologies into precise micro-movements of the daVinci instruments.
Similar to conventional laparoscopy, daVinci Gastric Bypass may also offer numerous potential benefits when compared with traditional open surgery, including:
Significantly less pain
Less blood loss
Less scarring
A shorter hospital stay
And a faster return to normal daily activities
